Prognosis-Guided Rehabilitation
1979 - 1985
The period from 1979 to 1985 saw a shift toward using early prognostic indicators to shape management and rehabilitation in brain injury. Large-scale analyses linked initial clinical features such as depth of coma, pupil reaction, eye movements, motor response, and patient age to six-month outcomes, driving early triage decisions and family counseling, and promoting outcome-driven rehab planning. A move toward imaging-informed prognosis and integration of cognitive, motor, and behavioral rehabilitation established a unified framework that prioritized functional recovery and individualized pathways.
